Sunday News Bites: October 28th

Hello and welcome to another edition of Sunday News Bites! This week we are joined in the newsroom by Nadie from El Cazador de la Bruja- everyone give a big hand for Nadie, the world’s most useless bounty hunter!
Nadie: Hey, that was uncalled for.

New anime licensor steps into the ring
Californian company New Galaxy Anime has stepped up to the plate to try its hand at licensing anime, starting with the 1981 Osamu Tezuka directed film The Adventures of Unico. Although there is no release date for the film as yet, this initial announcement seems to indicate that the company will be focusing on bringing older ‘classics’ to the market.

Sunday News Bites: October 21st

Hello and welcome to another edition of Sunday News Bites! It’s been a bit of a slow news week, but never let it be said that we on the Sunday News Bites team aren’t experts at scraping the bottom of the barrel to bring you a few titbits of mild interest! Today’s guest is Shion from Higurashi Kai, who we hauled in shortly before she went on a killing spree.

Higurashi Kai: Now you can watch your violence online
Are you sick of TV channels cancelling the broadcast of your favourite bloodbaths? In response, animate.tv has decided to stream each episode online for free, starting with episode 12 on October 24th. Each episode can be watched free of charge for a week, although Windows, IE and a Japanese I.P. (or a way around these restrictions) are required. Continue reading “Sunday News Bites: October 21st”

Sunday News Bites: October 14th

Hello and welcome to another edition of Sunday News Bites! This week we are joined in the newsroom by Nozomu Itoshiki from Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, who claims that Azure Flame has left him in despair! Let’s see if we can dissuade him from suicide attempts long enough to comment on the week’s news.

Not quite Sayonara for the hopeless sensei
Did the fact that Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei was a mere twelve episodes long leave you in despair? Then never fear, because come the start of 2008, a second season will be coming our way, promising more insanity and bleak humour from the depressive teacher and his class of misfits. Sunday News Bites: October 7th

Hello and welcome to another edition of Sunday News Bites! This week we invited one badass freaking Overlord to join us in the newsroom- that’s right, Zetta himself is here! Let’s see what he thinks of the latest news from the world of anime.

Geneon Saga latest: letter to fans

In our continuing coverage of the protracted Geneon saga, we can reveal that the company president has sent out a message to fans. Although rather generic in nature, the letter thanks fans for their support, and claims that the company is still looking for ways to continue distribution of their DVDs (obviously via an agreeable third party). Black Lagoon, ZnT and Nanoha fans should also take heart, as even though it is unclear when and how the DVDs will get to American fans (and importers), Ocean Studios claims to be proceeding with dubbing with the relevant seasons of these series. Sunday News Bites: September 30th

Hello and welcome to another edition of Sunday News Bites! Now that we’ve all settled down after the belated airing of the final episode of School Days (complete with nice boat) and the continuation of Higurashi Kai, let’s get to the other news of the week, with the help of returning fat cat guests, Mikoto and Aria. For ease of reading, we have translated their comments into English.

Geneon pulls out of the DVD business
It’s official- with the ADV deal having fallen through, Geneon has decided to bow out of DVD distribution and marketing. As of last Friday, they have stopped accepting orders for DVDs, and only those with a release date on or before November 6th will be sent out. This leaves several series unfinished or unreleased, whilst existing Geneon stock will most likely be out of print for the foreseeable future once retailers sell out- in other words, if you don’t buy it now, you may never get the chance to. Sunday News Bites: September 23rd

Hello and welcome to another edition of Sunday News Bites! This week we are joined by Light Yagami, here to judge the week’s news with the power of the Death Note.

HaruToki 3 announced
Can’t get enough of bishounen-filled reverse harem shows? Then you’ll be delighted to learn that the latest Harukanaru Toki no Naka De anime adaptation has been announced- a one hour special based on the third game. The special is set to be released in December, and will no doubt be as dull and lacking in any real plot as the other Haruka anime adaptations and their sister series Angelique and La Corda d’Oro.
Light says: These bishounen are unworthy, and shall have their names written in my Death Note. Continue reading “Sunday News Bites: September 23rd”

Sunday News Bites: September 16th

Hello and welcome to another edition of Sunday News Bites! This week, we are joined in the studio by Ludwig of Meine Liebe, who, as long-time readers will know, is actually chained up in my basement in order to provide on-tap HARD GAY energy to power the blog.

Manga gets one step closer to world domination
Even an anime blog can skim the surface of politics, it seems, with the recent resignation of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe putting self-proclaimed manga fan Tarō Asō in the running for the job. In the wake of this news, stocks in anime and manga related companies have duly been going up, although fans should take off their rose-tinted glasses and look at the man’s policies before getting too excited. Sunday News Bites: September 9th

Hello and welcome to another edition of Sunday News Bites! Although it hardly feels like it, it’s now been three months since we started, and this week, we have a special guest to celebrate that fact- Ryuuki from Saiunkoku Monogatari. Read on to find out the Imperial opinion on this week’s breaking news.

Mushi-Uta second season
Fourteen novels, twelve anime episodes- it was always clear that a single season of Mushi-Uta wasn’t going to get very far with the story unless it rushed along at breakneck speed. Since the anime seemed to be doing the exact opposite with regards to pacing, it’s a relief to learn that there will be a second twelve episode season airing sometime after the first. I’ll admit that I didn’t take to Mushi-Uta straightaway, but now that I’m enjoying the series, I’m happy to have more of it forthcoming. Continue reading “Sunday News Bites: September 9th”

Sunday News Bites: September 2nd- Good Things Come in Threes

Hello and welcome to another edition of Sunday News Bites! Although our custom made seat nearly collapsed under Mikoto’s weight last week, we have decided to test it to the limit by wheeling in the plump President Aria.

Aria gets a third season
Aria fans, the moment we have all hoped for has come to pass- a third season, Aria the Origination, has been announced. Apparently this season has been in production since spring, and whilst no air date has been announced yet, it cannot come too soon for those of us who adore this excellent series. With plenty of manga material left and the scope for original stories too, it seems likely that this will be a sure-fire hit right out of the gate for everyone who has already been captivated by the gentle and charming world of Neo Venezia. Sunday News Bites: August 26th

Hello and welcome to another edition of Sunday News Bites! This week, we are joined in the newsroom by fat cat Mikoto, who we can communicate with by means of a special translator. Trust me, she makes more sense than some of the guests we’ve had on here.

Mai-Otome S.ifl- that’s Zero to you and me
Can’t get enough of Mai-Otome? Then you’ll be happy to know that now that everyone’s favourite OVA, Zwei, has concluded, we’re going to be treated to the all-new Mai-Otome S.ifl (previously known as Mai-Otome 0), a prequel story featuring Rena, young John Smith, blonde Maria and the five Pillars of the era- as well as what looks like appearances from the two starring characters of Mai-HiME Destiny. I know it will probably be senseless, confusing and lacking in any real plot, but due to the cursed destiny that ties me to Otome, I feel compelled to try it out.
Mikoto says: I hope there are fat cats in this…in fact, it should only be about fat cats. Continue reading “Sunday News Bites: August 26th”
