I must admit that around half of the series I’m watching at the moment are rather forgettable- if I’d know in advance how poor they would be, I would never have even started them in the first place. Of course, once you make headway into a series, it becomes very difficult to drop it, but in a few weeks’ time I should be released from the chaff in time to sample the best (and most likely the worst) of the autumn season. A normal day at Azure Flame.
It’s been a year of ups and downs, of anime gems and utter disappointments- a year when I’ve alternated between craving more and feeling utterly fed up with the continuing deluge of episodes that take no account of the fact that people might have other things to do than stay in and watch all day. Nonetheless, in true years-end tradition, we must review all the new series in an Annual Round-Up, a project which I meant to periodically update through the year but ended up writing at the last minute again.
As always, red titles are those which were dropped, and blues are the picks of the year. Come back on Tuesday for the New Year Rumble, in which we take a look at the year in the life of Azure Flame.

Sometimes, you just have to do something completely shameless- for example, just by typing “Dumbledore is gay” here, I can ride the wave of a recent news story and attract more viewers. And now that all you people have come to this blog for no reason, go away again whilst the regular readers click onwards.
Ratchet and Clank Universe
Ratchet and Clank is a great game series, but there are still ways to make it even better- and one of those ways is through R&C Universe. In this innovative game, every planet that has been featured in an R&C game up until now is available to visit, with all the races, space battles and other mini-games that you could ever wish for! It’s that time again, when I write about all the anime to come in the next month or so, ignoring the fact that everyone else does this already. I’ve given up on the whole predicting what I will or won’t watch, since it’s laughably inaccurate- let’s just get down to what will be replacing the spring and summer series on our viewing schedules.
Moonlight Mile season 2
I did try to get on with the first season of Moonlight Mile, but after a barely comprehensible opening episode and warnings of extreme MANLINESS ahead, I never did continue with it. I’m not sure if anyone (other than Kryptfo?) actually watched to the end of season one, but if they did, they’ll probably be ready for more STRAIGHT adventures with the manly men of space. Continue reading “Autumn 2007 Preview, or Fall for you Yanks”
The other day, I learned something which changed everything I once knew and held to be true. What was this profound truth, you might ask? Well, by using first person mode in the original .hack games, my sister and I have been able to look inside grunties, and they have been discovered to be hollow. What sort of life can we lead now that we know that grunties are mere frames with sheets stretched over them?
Useless Gaming FAQ Advice
Picture the scene- you’re so hideously stuck on a game that you just have to refer to a FAQ (or you’re just lazy), but instead of the detailed strategies you were hoping for, there is a statement so blatantly obvious it need never have been written in the first place. Here are some examples of the sort of frustratingly useless gaming advice you wish you’d never read. Continue reading “Tuesday Rumble: September 11th”
Hello and welcome to another edition of Sunday News Bites! Although it hardly feels like it, it’s now been three months since we started, and this week, we have a special guest to celebrate that fact- Ryuuki from Saiunkoku Monogatari. Read on to find out the Imperial opinion on this week’s breaking news.
Mushi-Uta second season
Fourteen novels, twelve anime episodes- it was always clear that a single season of Mushi-Uta wasn’t going to get very far with the story unless it rushed along at breakneck speed. Since the anime seemed to be doing the exact opposite with regards to pacing, it’s a relief to learn that there will be a second twelve episode season airing sometime after the first. I’ll admit that I didn’t take to Mushi-Uta straightaway, but now that I’m enjoying the series, I’m happy to have more of it forthcoming. Continue reading “Sunday News Bites: September 9th”
Writers’ meeting to discuss Iroha finale
It’s been a few months now, but the ridiculousness of the Iroha finale has caused it to cycle back into the limelight as we try to imagine just what was going through the writers’ heads as they plotted out the last few episodes.
Head Writer: Okay guys, we’ve got to finish up this series about the Lord’s Head- any ideas?
Writer 1: Well, why don’t we stall for time by including cameos of lots of historical characters?
Writer 2: Yeah, that’ll give those history buffs a real kick- seeing their heroes flash on and off screen for about two seconds. Continue reading “Tuesday Rumble: August 28th”
