Final Thoughts: Maria-sama ga Miteru season four

Yumi is nearing the end of her second year at Lillian, and there is much to be done before her beloved onee-sama Sachiko can graduate and leave her to take over the role of Rosa Chinensis. Of course, the most pressing matter is finding a petite soeur, and whilst Yoshino is pressured by Rei and Eriko to pick one, Yumi must finally make a decision. Is Touko the one she wants to give her rosary to, or is there someone better out there to join the Red Rose ‘family’? Continue reading “Final Thoughts: Maria-sama ga Miteru season four”

School Rumble Sangakki
According to its official site, a third season of School Rumble has been given the go-ahead, with two episodes of this new “Third Term” to be released with the first editions of manga volumes 21-22 (we assume there will be more to the series than these two episodes).
Entertainment correspondent Aria: Punyu. [Here at Azure Flame, we had serious issues with the basic crappiness of the second season, and having read ahead in the manga and found little of interest, we no longer care enough about School Rumble to watch it.] Continue reading “Sunday News Bites: March 9th”

Sunday News Bites: January 20th

Hello and welcome to another edition of Sunday News Bites! This week we are joined in the newsroom by Doujin Work’s Osana Najimi, here to give her unique insights into this week’s news.

The end of a manga era
After seven volumes of the main story and two further collected volumes of side stories, the Emma manga is finally coming to an end. Also concluding in the near future is the Karin manga, better known as Chibi Vampire to Tokyopop readers.
Najimi says: How much money did those mangaka make? I wonder if I should read them to get some tips for my next doujin.

Annual Round-Up 2007

A normal day at Azure Flame.

It’s been a year of ups and downs, of anime gems and utter disappointments- a year when I’ve alternated between craving more and feeling utterly fed up with the continuing deluge of episodes that take no account of the fact that people might have other things to do than stay in and watch all day. Nonetheless, in true years-end tradition, we must review all the new series in an Annual Round-Up, a project which I meant to periodically update through the year but ended up writing at the last minute again.

As always, red titles are those which were dropped, and blues are the picks of the year. Come back on Tuesday for the New Year Rumble, in which we take a look at the year in the life of Azure Flame.

Maria-sama ga Miteru OVA 5: Go Italia!

Yumi and the other second years are venturing out from under the thumbs of their dominant onee-samas, but what kind of things will they get up to in cosmopolitan Italy? Will they try out new and exciting kinds of HARD YURI, or will the memory of their mistresses keep them on the straight and narrow?

“Did you really suggest we should have HARD YURI here in public?” Continue reading “Maria-sama ga Miteru OVA 5: Go Italia!”

Final Thoughts: Maria-sama ga Miteru OVA

“…just which screencap you can be bothered to upload.”

After two seasons and twenty-six episodes of flower petals, HARD YURI and angst, the infamous Maria-sama ga Miteru decided to take a rest from TV series format and adapt the next part of the novels as five fifty-minute OVA episodes. Having enjoyed the TV series, I was initially interested to see where the story would go next, but as I was soon to discover, this OVA seemed designed to weed out the true MariMite enthusiast from the milder fan.

Sunday News Bites: July 22nd

Welcome to another edition of Sunday News Bites! This week we are joined in the news room by Laharl of Disgaea, specifically here to comment on our first story.

Disgaea 3…for PS3
First it was Laharl, then Adell- but now Disgaea fans can look forward a whole new adventure with the announcement of the third instalment in Nippon Ichi’s popular SRPG series. The only blot on the horizon for some of us is that the new game is coming out on a new console- the Playstation 3. Given that the series will be maintaining the same graphical style as the first two, there hardly seems any point putting it on a console whose processing power it doesn’t even need, but no matter how it pans out, I must play this game no matter what measures need to be taken (here’s at least hoping for a PSP version). For those who like their announcements official, here’s Nippon Ichi’s pdf on the matter; just don’t ask me what Prism Red is doing as a homeroom teacher.
