So Long and Goodnight

When I started my PhD three years ago, I ended up with a lot less time and energy for blogging. Nor could I spend hours each week keeping abreast of the latest anime and manga, reading and commenting on blogs, and generally staying in the loop. Real life had called, and contrary to form, I had to answer. Nonetheless, since I still liked writing and remained as opinionated as ever, I decided not to call it a day. Even if I could only blog once in a while, I would eventually get through the backlog- wouldn’t I? In the end, however, even this modest ambition proved untenable. Reviewing anime series in particular became a chore, and by the time I got around to any given review, not only could I barely remember the series in question, but it was for sure that no one else would care about what I had to say.

With that in mind, it’s time to walk away. Azure Flame was fun in its prime, but it’s time to accept that it’s never coming back. After I submit my thesis, I might post the occasional video game review (I’ve still to praise the marvellous Odin Sphere), but I really need to rethink the things I want to write about. And I will write again- I have some fiction projects I want to get on with, my reviewing duties for Amazon to keep on top of, and I plan to use my B-side blog to discuss my recent experiments with bento box lunches. But I won’t be rejoining the blogworld in any big way- I’ll just be faffing around in my own little corner. Anyone who wants to stop by now and then is still very welcome.

  1. The title reminds me of Helena, aka a great song by My Chemical Romance, aka the best band ever.

I myself am trying to hang on to my ISSS Eye Sedso. I’ve been getting lazy with posting and watching anime. I’ll never die though I refuse to go quietly into the night!

  2. Thank you for all the reviews. I’ll miss your witty reviews. Best wishes with your thesis and writing projects.

  3. You’ve been in my feedreader since 2007 so this makes me feel quite mournful… But it sounds like you have good reasons to wrap things up — I hope your thesis submission goes well!

  4. Oh! I have been wondering for ever and ever why you haven’t been posting much anymore. Good luck with your thesis and future endeavours!

  5. I was a pleasure being your Dasaku neighbor. I hope one day you will find the time to come blog with us again. Good luck with your real life obligations! =)

  6. That’s sad, but times change. I enjoyed all the RPG reviews and the long gone Tuesday Rumble. Best of luck with everything!
