Final Thoughts: Clannad

Get up, go to school, go home- day in, day out, this is the sum of Okazaki Tomoya’s existence, a dull routine broken only by the occasional practical joke. But when he meets Furukawa Nagisa, a senior who has to repeat a year due to illness, everything slowly changes. Despite the hurdles in her way, Nagisa is determined to revive the defunct Theatre Club, and despite his stated indifference to it all, Tomoya finds herself slowly drawn into her life and goals. The world of lost save data- where does it go?

Way back in the days of .hack//SIGN, Bear wondered if the game worlds where you lose and switch off the power actually continue somewhere, and now we must wonder the same of lost save data- do those gaming realities still exist somewhere? Are there existences where the gaming characters must continue on in their own little worlds, bereft of help from the player? If the hero character is dead, is the world of NPCs condemned to a life of oppression under the main villain? Does nothing exist until we save it, or do those worlds carry on without us even if we just reset the game? Are we being irresponsible in filling the universe with invisible gaming realities? Be sure to think of these things next time you save your game…

A few more anime recommendations…

chibi-karura-blog.pngStill stuck for something to watch? Then let Azure Flame once again guide you to the best of the best, the cream of the crop in the world of anime.

Hello Kitty and Friends
Many have written off Hello Kitty as a kids’ show, but there is so much more to it than that. In animated form, Hello Kitty is a delightful slice-of-life tale, following the daily lives of Kitty and her sister Mimmy as they discover the world around them. Second only to Aria in terms of quality and tranquillity, Hello Kitty is a must-see series for anyone who wants to enjoy a quieter pace of life.

Spring 2008 Preview: Once you get in the habit of doing these things, you have to keep it up

chibi-karura-blog.pngPointless or not, I’m too opinionated not to post a spring preview, so her you go- Karura’s latest overture to conventionality. Once again, I’ve been too lazy to consider OVAs.

Gag Manga Biyori 3
I’m still waiting for Gag Manga Biyori 2 to be subbed in its entirety, but this offbeat and random comedy series has always been a fun diversion, and hopefully it will continue to be so. Continue reading →

chibi-dii-blog.pngSuperficial reasons for watching a particular series
Much as I’d like to say that every anime I watch is picked through a rigorous series of selection tests, I have to admit that it often doesn’t work that way. Therefore, this week on Tuesday Rumble, we go behind the scenes to determine those superficial things that draw me to certain series.

  • Fat cats: really, what better reason could there be to watch a series than because it has overweight felines in it? It was this that brought me to Stratos 4, and kept me going with Mai-Otome.
  • Title: if the mere title of a series sounds interesting, or simply vaguely like something that I already like, I feel oddly drawn to it. Continue reading →
